With the summer fast-approaching, it’s a perfect time to walk around and explore Vancouver communities. One of our favourite neighbourhoods is the East Vancouver Grandview-Woodland area. This community has lots of culture and diversity that has resulted in a variety of amazing independent shops and services throughout.

Commercial Drive or “the drive” is filled with things to see, taste and experience but there are also a variety of excellent spots scattered throughout the neighbourhood beyond this popular stretch.

Here are some of the Cape Group team’s top community picks:

Renzullo Food Market

The Renzullo family opened this store over 50 years ago and it is still run by family members today. The market has the best in Italian goodies from homemade sauces and meatballs to delicious coffees and paninis.

“I absolutely love Renzullo’s for their Italian panini, olives, figs, balsamic reductions, cappuccinos, and the fantastic community there.” Rupert Campbell- Director of Development.

What’s Up? Hot Dog!

On East Hastings, you will find a unique hot dog joint with the coolest ambiance and delicious eats. From one-of-a–kind hot dogs to vegan menu items, you can enjoy your food while playing a house board game or trying the pinball machines that have been supplied by East Van Amusement. This place is a must!

“What’s up Hot dog is a great local spot for cool hot dogs and drinks” Zack Ross- COO

Grandview Park

Just off Commercial Drive, this park is a perfect spot for all ages outdoor activity and its always busting with community fun. With a recently upgraded kids’ playground, theatre stage, sports courts and gardens, this is a beautiful outdoor oasis in the middle of a busy urban space.

You will often see people enjoying picnics, festivals, sports tournaments and plays in this large green space. There is even a sports court that was designed for bike polo games! We love this spot.

Dolce Amore

Several people on our team mentioned this spot for “the best gelato” in Vancouver. On Commercial Drive, this sweet spot is in the heart of “little Italy”.

The flavour selection is amazing with delicious summer mango and the yummy “monkey business” that combines banana gelato with fudge, brownies, pecans and peanut butter!

Do you have local Grandview Woodland favourites? We would love to hear about them!
