The Sophia is an homage to the growing campus precinct along Great Northern Way and will include 112 rental units, 4,500 sq ft of commercial space and a 56-space daycare with south-facing outdoor play area, as well as second floor amenity room and 9th floor rooftop patio for the residents.
The project is situated 200m from the future SkyTrain station at Thornton Ave, and 700m from Main St Science World. As a transit-oriented rental building, a transit pass subsidy will be provided for some of the residents, and a bike share program will be included in the building.
Mass timber construction will be used for the residential portion of the project, lowering the building’s carbon footprint, reducing construction time, and providing superior energy performance. The building will also be connected to the City of Vancouver’s low carbon Neighbourhood Energy System.
